 The Chamber is asking residents to do their part to shore up the declining sales tax coffers in the city by spending their dollars as much as possible in Plano. Sales tax collections decreased $1.8 million, comparing May 2008 to May 2009
That is why the Chamber plans to seek support from the Plano City Council for a campaign called ‘Plano First-It Makes Cents!’ The campaign will remind Plano residents to shop, eat and play in Plano first.
Discounts for Shopping Plano First
Plano, TX – October 05, 2009 – In the spirit of the Plano First campaign to keep tax dollars in the city limits, many Plano businesses are offering incentives to shoppers. Shoppers who provide $50-dollars worth of receipts proving they shopped, dined or played in Plano; can turn them in for discount coupons.
The receipts can be turned in at various locations for 3 different types of coupon incentives. The Shops at Legacy and the Shops at Willow Bend will provide coupon booklets to shoppers in exchange for sales receipts totaling at least $50 from Plano stores and restaurants. Those receipts can be redeemed for coupon books at the following location:
- The Shops at Legacy, 5741 Legacy Drive, Suite 315 (above Fox Sports Grill)
Monday-Friday 8am-5pm
- The Shops at Willow Bend, Concierge Center, lower level near Macy’s
- North Texas Kids Family Expo, Oct. 31, 2009 Plano Centre, Plano First Booth
In addition shoppers will be able to get discount coupons to shops and restaurants in Historic Downtown Plano at the Taste of Downtown Plano on Oct. 17, 2009.
“We cannot emphasize the importance of this campaign too strongly”, said Brad Shanklin, President/CEO of the Chamber of Commerce. “We appreciate the residents who have begun to make Plano First part of their daily routine and hope this reward system will help make Plano First a priority for all citizens”. The Plano First Campaign was launched to curb a decline in sales tax revenue to the city of Plano during the past year. Plano sales taxes provide services for senior citizens; street repairs, infrastructure and traffic signs; monitors the health quality of restaurants; supports part of the fire department budget and crime prevention programs as well as supports a summer arts program for children.
